This past June was when Sicamous BC teacher Desiree Marshall-Peer and her students were first introduced to Project of Heart. Here’s what Marshall-Peer had to say honouring the lives of the students who did not make it home from Kitimaat Indian Residential School.
“This project was a wonderful thing to be a part of, and offered a way to humanize the curriculum and show a part of aboriginal life in our school. Project of Heart offered many chances for empathy and understanding, while dispelling several misconceptions students may have had. Of relevance to this school, was the fact that a grandmother of two of our students actually attended the Kitamaat IRS, the school that was assigned. This was such a great project to be a part of, and such a valuable learning experience for our school that we plan on doing it again next year. Thank you for the opportunity to participate!”
Project of Heart wants to thank Marshall-Peer as well as the students of Eagle River Secondary School for making it happen. Meegwetch to you all!
