This past term students at the Canadian Mennonite University in Winnipeg teamed up with Peace It Together to take part in Project of Heart for a second time. This meant that the CMU students were joined by High School youth from Mennonite churches across Canada, who completed the POH exercise in a drop-in style so that learners could come, learn, and contribute on their own time.
The majority of the Mennonite students had heard about the Indian Residential Schools, but as facilitator for the Project, Anna-Marie Janzen says, “Even for the kids who had heard of the IRSs, seeing the map with the sheer numbers of schools was shocking, and the literature provided by Project of Heart was enlightening.”
Many thanks to the Canadian Mennonite University and their commitment to continue learning and taking responsibility for establishing “right relations” with Aboriginal peoples in Canada.
