Silver Creek Elementary ~ Orange shirt day

Silver Creek Elementary School

On Orange Shirt Day, 140 students took part in creating hearts to honor Indian Residential School survivors after learning the meaning behind Orange Shirt Day.

The students have also made a heart garden, decorated the halls with heart messages and orange t-shirts. Many of the students have also completed the 10 lesson Gladys module where they learned about The Life of a child in a BC Indian Residential School.  bctf.ca/GladysWeNeverKnew/

Ms. MacPherson and students at Langdale Elementary and Roberts Creek Elementary recognized  Orange Shirt Day the week before September 30.

Students heard Phyllis Webstad’s story and were then invited to trace their hands on construction paper and write something they can do to show someone else they matter.  Many intermediate students chose to write messages to Phyllis on their hands.
