Its purpose is to:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Examine the history and legacy of Indian Residential Schools in Canada and to seek the truth about that history, leading to the acknowledgement of the extent of loss to former students, their families and communities<\/li>\n<li>Commemorate the lives of the thousands of Indigenous children who died as a result of the residential school experience.<\/li>\n<li>Call Canadians to action, through social justice endeavors, to change our present and future history collectively<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Project of Heart acknowledges the families and communities to whom those children belonged. It was originally designed to bring awareness both to the settler community and communities of new Canadians. Project of Heart has evolved, through community ownership of the project itself, to educate all Canadians about the history and legacy of this crime and tragedy.<br \/>\nIn acknowledging the loss suffered by Aboriginal children, families and communities through the Indian Residential School experience, we also gain an understanding of the strength, wisdom and resilience of the traditional peoples of this land. Project of Heart seeks to:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>expand the opportunities available for the wisdom of Aboriginal Elders to be heard, recognized and honored<\/li>\n<li>change attitudes and behaviors \u2013 hearts and minds \u2013 as Elders give voice to language, values, traditions and teachings that were suppressed by residential schooling<\/li>\n<li>inspire the building of relationships between Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal people in Canada based on mutual understanding, respect and collective action to create a different future<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/projectofheart.ca\/step-1-investigation-into-the-history-and-legacy-of-indian-residential-schools-in-canada\/\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/projectofheart.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/01\/takeme.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/a><a name=\"french\"><\/a><br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-2098\" title=\"french-sep\" src=\"http:\/\/projectofheart.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/01\/french-sep.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"568\" height=\"21\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Le Projet du C\u0153ur<\/p>\n<p>Le Projet du C\u0153ur est un projet de cheminement artistique, interg\u00e9n\u00e9rationnel, pratique et collaboratif bas\u00e9 sur l\u2019enqu\u00eate, qui consiste \u00e0 chercher la v\u00e9rit\u00e9 sur l\u2019histoire des peuples autochtones au Canada. Son objectif est de:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>porter un regard sur l\u2019histoire des pensionnats autochtones au Canada, afin de souligner l\u2019ampleur de l\u2019impact de ces pensionnats sur les vies des anciens \u00e9l\u00e8ves, de leurs familles et de leurs communaut\u00e9s;<\/li>\n<li>rendre hommage aux milliers d\u2019enfants autochtones qui ont perdu la vie suite \u00e0 leur passage en pensionnat;<\/li>\n<li>appeler les Canadiens \u00e0 s\u2019engager dans la lutte pour la justice sociale, afin de changer le cours de notre histoire.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Le Projet du Coeur comm\u00e9more les familles et les collectivit\u00e9s auxquelles ces enfants appartenaient. Au d\u00e9part, le Projet fut con\u00e7u pour sensibiliser les communaut\u00e9s immigrantes et de descendance europ\u00e9enne \u00e0 cette facette de notre histoire. Suite \u00e0 une prise de conscience collective, le Projet vise maintenant \u00e0 \u00e9duquer tous les Canadiens \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e9gard des r\u00e9percussions de ce crime tragique.<\/p>\n<p>La reconnaissance des souffrances des enfants, des familles et des collectivit\u00e9s autochtones occasionn\u00e9es par les pensionnats indiens nous permet de mieux comprendre le courage, la sagesse et la r\u00e9silience des Premi\u00e8res nations.
